This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites. His characters are interesting, at times intense, witty and humorous. The good guys are great and the bad guys are hateful. This author just keeps you wanting more. The conspiracy continues in the next book. New characters are added, Alicia Myles has returned, Mai Kantano, the Japanese superspy is now a part of the team. I'm glad I founf this author, it is a good read and full of excitement and cliff hangers. This is a different kind of story than I'm used to but it is refreshing not to have the same old bad guy good guy thing. I highly recommend if you want a new twist in stories. Aloha--
I was sad when I finished the David Wood action series but I was lucky to find David Leadbetter. The plots and characters are awesome. I'm starting the second series now and recommend these books to anyone who likes action, great plots, and super characters.
This second in the series is superior to the first. Characters are more fully developed. Keep wondering how Leadbeater can top this one. Again, the end of the book came as a shock and leaving the reader demanding more. Thank goodness there are still 3 through 11 to go. I expect they will keep getting better, at least more exciting. When you get the second one, might as well get the third since you will want to begin it immediately
A really good fantasy book - if you can get past the blood, gore and some pretty bad language. Of course, those things are how the author brings out how nasty the villain and his cohorts are. It is adventure, search, follow and be followed all the way to the end with a few twists and turns along the way. I would suggest reading the first Matt Drake adventure, "The Bones of Odin" to acquaint yourself with the main characters and their relationships. It will add to understanding what is happening in this book but it is not absolutely necessary. The author's development of these characters will make me read the third book in the series to see what happens to each one of them, especially since this book leaves it wide open for another meeting with these really bad malevolent characters!
I was really hoping to like the Matt Drake series, but the violence is just beyond gratuitous. You don’t need that much blood and gore to convince me someone’s a bad guy. I read the first book and barely made it through. Couldn’t make it to the end of the second one. Might be okay for some readers, but not this one.
David Leadbeater slugs another home run with "The Blood King Conspiracy!" While weaving through the development of a relationship between hero Matt Drake and ex-NYPD cop Kennedy Moore, Leadbeater takes the reader on a wild ride that hints at the paranormal, displays extortion at its worst, and creates an antagonist with an insatiable blood-lust along that knows no bounds and reaches into the highest levels of the American government.
In an unforeseen and unexpected twist, Drake teams up with his ex-SAS team mate, Alicia Miles and his former commander Wells, as they join with two CIA agents also out for the Blood King. Joining Matt Blake again is his eighteen year old tenant, British rock singer and spy "wannabe," Ben, who finds love, lust, and danger on his latest adventure.
All of Leadbeater's characters find themselves tied up in an old pirate myth that just might become a reality that could change the future for all humanity! Buckle up and hold on for literary ride of a lifetime.
<Spoiler Alert - Plot elements will be discussed> I have enjoyed the Matt Drake adventure series quite a bit. The stories are highly imaginative and full of action. Some of the action may seem a bit over the top, but it's all in good fun and certainly appropriate to the mayhem of the plot. I did knock off a couple of stars for a few typos, and a heavy dose of British humor, some of which is simply unintelligible for a Yank (US audience). One other reason for star deduction is that the books have just a wee bit too much sexual reference for a wider and younger audience. While there are no overt descriptions of sexual conduct, there are a few vulgarities and body part references that I thought were unnecessary. I encourage authors to avoid such content in order to include younger readers as potential customers; after all, the idea is to get as many readers as possible to buy the book, now isn't it? The books are sequential and do need to be read in order because of the continuing plot line. This one continues the story of a maniac intent on conquering or destroying the World by pursuing and possessing various ancient artifacts to give him power to reign supreme. His horrifying disregard for human life leaves a trail of destruction across the globe, and only our heroes (and a few supporting cast from the SAS and CIA) are able to deal with the circumstances. The characters are engaging, and each has a unique talent that they bring to the fight to save the World. One point to know - don't get too attached to any of the characters, as there are plenty of people who fall by the wayside. This is a good series, and definitely -worthy.
